Poetry Break #4: Mother Goose Rhyme

Introduction

Share your favorite mother goose rhyme with children. Have them recite their favorite rhyme and notice the variations and how they differ by cultures.

Jack and Jill Went Up the Hill

Jack and Jane jumped on a plane,

To fly to Barcelona;

What a surprise!

They rubbed their eyes,

And saw their sister Mona!

Kate and Pete ran down the street,

To catch the bus for DALLAS;

oh, said Kate, I know were late,

But, we have to wait for Alice.

Extension

Have children create rhymes based on their favorite Mother Goose chant. Encourage children to create and illustrate the rhyme. Compile the rhymes and make a group Mother Goose chant book!
