In This Same Sky, Naomi Shihab Nye reminds readers that poetry is a universal form of expression. Japanese, Polish, Indian as well as other ethnic poets are represented in this anthology. The poems are divided into sections: words and silences, dreams and dreamers, families, the earth and the sky in which we live, losses, and human mysteries. An index of poets and country is included. The poems offer readers an eclectic mixture of expression that presents an innovative twist to the genre. With poems that focus on a mans hesitation towards crying (A Man Never Cries, Craveirinha) as well as other unusual topics, this anthology may not spark a high level of interest among young adult readers. Most of the poems lack rhythm or a lively flow of expression.
