Sleator, William. 1984. Instellar Pig. Puffin Books. New York: ISBN: 0525440984

"I'm telling you there's more history to this house than any other place on Indian Neck, and thats the truth."

During summer vacation with his parents, six-teen year old Barney meets some intriguing neighbors, Zena, Manny, and Johnny. Together, they spend the summer playing the board game Instellar Pig. Barney becomes obsessed with the game and determined to find out the truth about his strange neighbors.

While Sleator's descriptive writing style adds to the mystique of the novel, this element also makes the novel drag along with unnecessary dialogue. The New York Times suggests Instellar Pig is a riveting adventure coupled with a highflying sense of humor. The humor is a significant benefit of the novel because it gives Sleator's work a clever mixture of fantasy, suspense, and witty twists and turns.

Teen readers will love Instellar Pig. It is definitely a great read!
