Klause, Annette Curtis. 1997. Blood and Chocolate. Doubleday. New York: ISBN: 0440226686

Teenage werewolf, Vivian Gandillion has fell for Aiden, a human boy. She and her family have just relocated to Maryland from West Virginia and Vivian wants to fit in desperately. Will Aiden's affection be worth her revealing her true self?

Blood and Chocolate is an extremely easy read that creatively combines fantasy with realism. The book features a main character that happens to be a werewolf but she also has realistic teenage behaviors.  Klause appeals to teen readers by giving Vivian human elements that they can relate to. Klause does a remarkable job of balancing realism with fantasy. Kirkus Reviews describes Klauses' plot as complex. I feel the plot contains just enough complexity to challenge teen readers while offering a superb read at the same time!
