Trent, an expert interrogator who is recruited by Lieutenant Braxton to get a confession out of twelve-year-old Jason.  Jason's friend, Alicia Bartlett has been murdered in Monument, Massachusetts. Jason was the last to see her and the only suspect. Influenced by his perfect track record and other incentives, Trent is determined to get a confession out of Jason even if he is innocent. Jason tries his best to avoid being intimidated and manipulated. Their actions result in a surprising and stunning ending to a novel full of thrilling twists!

 

Throughout the novel, Cormier shadows his characters. Full of fast-paced dialogue and suspense, this novel is filled with exhilarating twists and turns and hard-hitting language.

 

"Let me tell you something, Jason. Youre safe here with me. Once you step out that door, there is nothing, nobody to protect you."

 

The Rag and Bone Shop includes a captivating and corruptive tone.  Readers become intrigued with Trent's impressive skills and Jason's innocence and quick wit.  Their interaction contributes significantly to the overall high quality of the novel.  Cormier's excellent balance of the character's personalities make this novel truly remarkable.

 

Teen mystery enthusiasts will adore this book. Publishers Weekly states the mounting tensions will keep readers eagerly turning the pages until the very end!
